Paris, s. n., 1927. 2 vol. large in-4° bound in full blue morocco, one of the vol. with a rich decoration of repetition of gilt and cold-stamped fillets in chevrons forming 3 lozenges in the centre, continuing on the spine, triple gilt and stamped fillet inside, light blue moire endpapers, gilt tr. covers, in folder, the 2nd vol. bound in full blue jansenist morocco, both in slipcase. Bindings signed Cretté, Marius Michel's successor. Decorated with 16 wood-engraved portraits, in monochrome, by Jacques Beltrand, all in 2 states, one before the letter. First edition printed at 200 numbered copies on vellum paper, this being 1 of 25 head copies for Louis Barthou. Enriched with 3 original pencil drawings, a wood fibre proof and an autograph letter from the author to Louis Barthou about this edition. The suite is bound in the 2nd volume, and includes 4 or 5 states of each engraving.
