Description
VERLAINE (Paul). Amour. Paris, Léon Vanier, 1888. In-12 bound in full camel morocco, spine ribbed, decorated with mosaics and gilt, the boards framed with red and gilt fillets with plant motifs in the spandrels and a diamond in the centre decorated with a gilt basket of flowers, gilt edges, original cover and spine preserved, in a folder and slipcase. Binding signed D. Morcrette. [4] ff, 154 pp, [1] blank. First edition, one of 50 copies printed on Hollande paper. A collection from Verlaine's late period, marked by an inspiration that is both mystical and intimate, testifying to the poet's spiritual evolution. A very fine copy despite the first 3 leaves torn and not inserted in the binding. Good condition Binding: Very good condition, protected by a matching flap folder. On the verso of the title page, the name J.Faki can be read, although the binding is signed D. moncrette on the leather. Green tabis endpapers Inside pages: Clean Untrimmed The first 3 leaves described in the Vicaire, i.e. the blank page, the title page and the false-title page, are torn horizontally over 5.5 cm, without being missing. The binder has chosen not to bind them with the rest of the work, which consequently begins directly with the title page. To my son Greorges Verlaine Cover: The 1st cover is torn horizontally for 3.5 cm from the outside (not missing). Minor edge tears and folds Approx. 5 mm loss at top corner White stains on 4th cover and spine
