(Written on the back in red ink [by Casteljau?], 11 May 1947: ‘Honey mixed with water ferments and goes mouldy very quickly; avoid doing this. Crystallised honey should be melted in a bain-marie. It is very useful, almost essential, to feed a swarm in its early stages – 250 g of syrup every two days for 15 days. Feeding syrup at this time of year: Whitsun: 3 litres of water to 4 kg of sugar.”)
