In-4°, 6, 740, 401 pp. Engraved portrait of the author, engraved title on the frontispiece and 15 full-page engravings within the text. Fauve marbled calfskin, spine with 5 raised bands richly decorated, gilt title, marbled edges. (Contemporary binding).
First illustrated French edition, translated from the Latin by Pierre du RYER. A very complete copy, including the portrait and frontispiece title, which are often missing. The 15 Books of the Metamorphoses are illustrated at the head of each chapter with 15 fine copperplate engravings by Gaspar ISSAC. In the Second Part, from page 1 to page 401, are the Explanations of the Metamorphoses. Excluding the 3 flyleaves.
