Botham for James Knapton, 1711–1712. 3 vols. in-8°, [24], 389, [2] pp.; 22, xxxvii, 1 bl., 308 pp.; [22], 332, [4] pp. 11 maps and 22 plates, including 10 large folding plates in full-colour. Mottled fawn calf, spine with 5 raised bands, gilt volume numbers, gilt scroll on the covers, speckled edges. (Contemporary binding).
Rare, complete first edition in three volumes, with its maps and engravings, of this Historical Geography of the Old Testament. Edward WELLS (1667–1727) was a mathematician, geographer and theologian. The work was frequently reprinted.
Handwritten provenance mark in German, 1765. ‘M. FAVEYRIAL’ stamp.
