EMPEDOCLES & PARMENIDES. Fragments of Empedocles and Parmenides from the Turin Codex, restored and annotated by Amedeo Peyron. This work also discusses the authentic Greek text of Simplicius’s Commentary on Aristotle’s *On the Heavens and the World*. Leipzig [Lipsiæ], published by I.A.G. Weigel, 1810. In-8°, 70, [6] pp. Marbled fawn half-basane, plain spine with decorative lettering, title page in blond morocco. (Contemporary binding). Red seal of Philippe LE BAS (1794–1860), French Hellenist, epigraphist, archaeologist and translator. A senior lecturer at the École normale supérieure, head of the Sorbonne library, member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, and president of the Institut de France, he is best known as the tutor to Napoleon III. Accidental damage with a tear at the top of the spine.
