A little-known artist, Paul Benoit Gaillard was born in Langres in 1892. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and lived with his wife in the 14th arrondissement. He died in Paris in 1941.
He painted extensively, notably the landscapes of the Nièvre and the surroundings of Saint-Léger-des-Vignes, where he owned a holiday home, as well as Paris and Langres.
The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Troyes holds a number of the artist’s works. To date, only a few paintings have appeared on the public auction market.
