Description
ORDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOUR (1802) – SECOND RESTORATION (1815–1830) - KNIGHT’S STAR, in chiselled silver and enamel, centres enamelled in gold, hallmarked with the lictor’s fasces, 66 x 43 mm, obverse bearing the effigy of Henry IV (head turned to the right) on a radiating background inscribed ‘HENRY IV KING OF FRANCE AND NAVARRE’, reverse featuring three fleurs-de-lis on a lined background and the inscription ‘HONOUR AND COUNTRY’, ornate foliage, a crown surmounted by a fleur-de-lis, a fluted ring; chipping to the white enamel on the reverse of one of the branches, to the green foliage and to the blue enamel in the centre of the reverse; a short ribbon; ABE. Enclosed is a STAR of the same design with numerous chips in the enamel.
