ORDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOUR (1802) – SECOND REPUBLIC (1848–1851) – GRAND OFFICER or GRAND CROSS PLAQUE, in silver and enamel, marked with a boar’s head hallmark and maker’s mark, gross weight: 74.6 grams, 83 mm in diameter, arms with sequin-effect finish, enamelled tricolour flags between the arms, multi-part centre piece bearing the effigy of the First Consul with his head turned to the right and the inscription ‘BONAPARTE 1er CONSUL - HONOUR AND COUNTRY’, on the reverse secured by a fine spring pin, high-quality late 19th-century workmanship, very good to superb condition.
