Description
ORDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOUR (1802) – SECOND EMPIRE (1852–1870) – GRAND OFFICER or GRAND CROSS PLAQUE, in chiselled silver, hallmarked with a boar’s head, 86 mm in diameter, arms cut into diamond points, centre in three parts, eagle’s head facing right with the inscription ‘HONNEUR ET PATRIE’, on the reverse a rectangular manufacturer’s plate ‘OUZILLE LEMOINE / JOAILLIERS BIJOUTIERS / DE LA LEGION D’HONNEUR / RUE DU BAC N° 1 - PARIS’, fastened by a fine spring pin and two side hooks; the pin’s barb requires re-soldering; early Second Empire period; very good to superb condition.
