SUB-SAHARIAN QUR’AN DATED 1815–16.
Unbound manuscript on paper, incomplete. 18 lines per page in brown ink in Sub-Saharan script (Maghribi or Sudani), with diacritical marks in red, yellow and green. Titles of the surahs in red. Two illuminated ‘sarlowh’. Several coloured marginal decorations. The beginning of the text is missing and has been replaced by four pages copied at a later date. Colophon dated in letters and numerals 1231H./11815-16, and an inscription on the last page dated “Muharram 1263H”. Replaced binding with flaps and leather cover decorated with embossed mandorlas and spandrels. In a leather slipcase with matching embossed decoration.
