ƒ MINIATURE QUR’AN, SAFAVID IRAN, DATED 5 JANUARY 1724. Arabic manuscript on paper. 19 lines per page in black and red ink within a double gilt frame. Gilt rosettes at the end of each verse. Double frontispiece illuminated in gold and polychrome. Titles of the Surahs in red within cartouches. Colophon dated 8 Rabi' al-Thani 1136 AH/5 January 1724 by Ibn 'Abdullah Muhammad Ashraf al-Tabataba'i. Brown leather binding decorated with a rosette and gilded spandrels. Red inner covers decorated with a quatrefoil motif (wear and tear; the double frontispiece is damaged and not collated).
