Description
"KHAMSA" OR PART OF THE "ALAM" BANNER
made of copper alloy, decorated in the centre with a Shia prayer venerating the family of the Prophet Muhammad and his cousin and son-in-law Ali, his wife Fatima and their sons Hassan and Hussein, surrounded by twelve medallions honouring the twelve Imams. The fingers feature a combination of Quranic verses and popular Shi’ite invocations against a background of clouds, lending it a protective significance.
Iran or India, 18th–20th centuries.
