Description
A SET OF EIGHT LARGE ILLUMINATIONS, ALL SIGNED AND TWO DATED 21 APRIL 1918
on paper, decorated in polychrome and gold with large multi-lobed rosettes against a background of floral scrolls, four-lobed and floral motifs surrounded by bands sometimes bearing medallions inscribed in Maghribi script with verses or votive formulas. Two drawings are signed "al-mu'allim (the teacher) Muhammad al-Zaki", and two others are signed "al-mu'allim (the teacher) Muhammad al-Halu al-Fassi" (from the city of Fez) and dated 10 Rajab 1336H/1917–18.

On one of the illuminations, the two inscriptions in white indicate, in cartouche 1: Quran 33:56 and in cartouche 2: Quran 22:63 (in part) and 40:61 (in part)
On the illumination with inscriptions on a green and black background, the first two cartouches contain verses from al-Busiri’s Qasidat al-Burda. Cartouche 3 reads “al-mu’allim (the teacher) Muhammad al-Halu al-Fassi at the madrasa of Ludaya [al-Udaya] in Old Rabat", and cartouche 4 gives the date 10 Rajab of the year 1336 (21 April 1918)".
