The Marabout of Lalla Marnia forms part of a central theme in Guillaumet’s work: the koubbas, to which he devotes an entire chapter in his book *Tableaux algériens* (1891). This subject was also brought to the fore during the exhibition *L’Algérie de Gustave Guillaumet* in 2018–2019, during which an oil painting of similar dimensions and composition was exhibited (Notter Annick et al., *L’Algérie de Gustave Guillaumet*. ed.
