Ahmed BALILI (Morocco, 1955) Women in the Souk Oil on canvas 22 x 27 cm Signed in Arabic and Latin script and dated (19)95, lower right. *** Oil on canvas, signed in Arabic and Latin script and dated lower right (8⅝ × 10⅝ in.) Provenance: Acquired from the artist. Balili is a self-taught Moroccan painter committed to figurative art. A keen observer of everyday life, he depicts his hometown, Marrakesh, and the scenes that bring it to life. He exhibited for the first time in 1982 in Casablanca, before going on to show his work regularly throughout Morocco. In 1989, he took part in the major exhibition ‘30 Moroccan Painters’ in Marrakech.
