Remaining true to the souwer (painting on glass) tradition, Mbida Birahim Fall revitalised this art form with refined contours and an enriched colour palette. A self-taught artist who first came to prominence in the 1970s, he is regarded as the doyen of the artists who have reformed this technique, and until his death in Dakar in 2012, he exerted a major influence on younger generations of reverse-painting artists.
