Camara Gueye graduated top of his class from the École nationale des Beaux-Arts in Dakar in 1997 and first came to prominence at the Dakar Biennale in 2000. His figurative work, characterised by powerful and expressive lines, creates a sensitive cartography of the streets and everyday life — that of a ‘poet of the street’. Following a ceramics residency in the Netherlands in 2005, he has exhibited internationally; his works are held, notably, in the collections of the French State, China, the Dapper Museum, the World Bank and the Tilder Foundation.
