In July 1911, Eugène Blum and Alice Lévy approached the authorities in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a centre of the watchmaking industry, to have the EBEL watch brand (Eugène Blum Et Lévy) registered in the commercial register. The following year, the brand launched its first wristwatch models, and won its first gold medal in 1914. The brand was soon approached by other brands such as Vacheron & Constantin, followed by Cartier, and also produced watches for the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.
