Description
79. Breguet. A fine and rare platinum automatic jump hour wristwatch Model: Classique, Limited Edition No.24/400 Reference: 3420 Date: Circa 1990 Movement: 25-jewel Cal.562 automatic, No.692 Dial: White enamel, black minute divisions with Arabic numeral 5 minute markers, jump hour aperture at 12, single blued steel Breguet hand Case: Brushed and polished round, snap on back, reeded band, cabochon set crown, No.3322 B Strap/Bracelet: Black leather Buckle/Clasp: Signed platinum buckle Signed: Case, dial & movement Size: 36mm Weight: 62,02g The jumping hour complication, widely attributed to Austrian engineer Josef Pallweber in 1883, enjoyed particular popularity during the Art Deco period, when it was embraced by prestigious manufactures such as Breguet, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin. After falling out of fashion following the Great Depression and the Second World War, the complication saw a revival in the early 1990s. Dating from circa 1992, the present Breguet reference 3420BA beautifully illustrates this renewed interest in alternative time displays. Its minimalist dial features a jumping hour aperture at 12 o'clock with red numerals, discreet dotted minute divisions, and classic Breguet numerals. Under certain lighting conditions, a hidden Breguet signature subtly appears beneath the 60-minute marker. While understated in appearance, the watch retains the maison's signature design elements, including the blued steel Breguet hand, fluted caseband, sapphire-set crown, and elegant curved lugs, combining technical sophistication with timeless refinement.
