VICTOR BALTARD (1805–1874) SET OF THREE POLYLOBED ROSETTES FROM THE ROOF CORBEL OF A PAVILION AT THE HALLES CENTRALES IN PARIS Cast iron painted brown, with openwork polylobed decoration. 1852–1870. Diameter: 83 cm; Thickness: 7.5 cm. Rust. PROVENANCE. Rare remnants from the demolition of the Central Market Halls in Paris in 1971–1973, these rosettes were saved by Pierre CRUCY, one of the demolition workers, who gave them to André and Yvette BONCOMPAIN, lovers of Paris and owners of the restaurant Le Grand Comptoir, founded at 4, rue Pierre Lescot, in the 1st arrondissement, by Auguste BUISSON, the great-grandfather of the current owner.
