CERTIFICATE OF PURCHASE FOR THE EIFFEL TOWER STAIRCASE, 1983
This certificate accompanied the purchase of staircase no. 8 from the Eiffel Tower at the auction on 1 December 1983.
The staircase was purchased from the original buyer by the Cartier Foundation to be entrusted to the sculptor César. He used it to create the sculpture ‘Hommage à Eiffel’, which was unveiled in 1989 at the Foundation in Jouy-en-Josas.
This sale followed the Eiffel Tower’s weight-reduction programme, which took place between 1981 and 1983.
