THREE MEDALS COMMEMORATING THE ASCENT OF THE EIFFEL TOWER, PARISIAN METALLURGICAL WORKS, CHARLES TROTIN (1833–1904)
Copper, bearing the inscription on the obverse: ‘Souvenir of my ascent to the top of the Eiffel Tower – 1889’ and an engraving of the holder’s name ‘Maurice and Laure 13 September 1898’ on one, the others blank. On the reverse, the Eiffel Tower and various Parisian and foreign monuments such as St Peter’s in Rome and the Pyramid of Giza.
Diameter: 4.2 cm.
During the 1889 World’s Fair and in the years that followed, this medal was presented to visitors who climbed the spiral staircase to the top.
