Édouard Marcel SANDOZ (1881–1971) “Bear Cub Sucking Its Foot” Bronze cast with a nuanced medal patina. Signed on the base with the number C 904. Sea-green marble plinth. (Slight wear to the patina) Height excluding plinth: 11.8 cm. Model created in 1925 and notably exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Suisses in Paris in 1926. Bibliography: Félix Marcilhac, “Sandoz: Figurative and Animal Sculptor, 1881–1971 – A Catalogue Raisonné of His Sculptural Work”, Les Éditions de l’Amateur, Paris, 1993. A similar model is listed under no. 714 and reproduced on p. 381. The entry mentions that it was cast by Catenot and that there is no foundry mark. A plaster model is listed under reference 711 on p. 380.
