Description
Etienne Maurice FALCONET (1716–1791), After ‘L’Amour menaçant’ Large white marble sculpture bearing an apocryphal signature on the back. Moulded white marble plinth. (Slight chipping on the plinth) Total height: 62 cm. Commissioned by Madame de Pompadour from the sculptor, the original was exhibited at the 1757 Salon and subsequently adorned the gardens of the Hôtel d’Evreux (now the Élysée Palace) before being bequeathed to the Louvre Museum in 1877 (inv. R.F. 296).
