Long cashmere shawl, c. 1870, featuring a sinuous black ground densely decorated with arabesques, set within a cut-out cartouche from which curl-shaped palm leaves and flowering vines emerge, framing an elongated pendent-shaped fleur-de-lis. Medallion composition outlined by a cream ‘mille-fleurs’ ribbon, with borders of leafy scrollwork. Woven in wool or cashmere using the cut-warp technique, 325 x 160 cm, ribbon marked 25 279.
