Folded fan, mother-of-pearl frame, mid-18th century, rocaille mother-of-pearl frame, re-pierced, carved and engraved, silver-plated and gilded with a ‘bergères’ motif within a border of volutes and foliage scrolls. The attached fan leaf, painted on cabretille with a genre scene, (restoration by Maître Brin) H. 26.5 cm. Housed in a case of the same period in embossed havana morocco leather, (damage) A collection of fans requiring restoration, circa 1780–1900, including two late 18th-century fans with ornate frames, the fan leaves painted with genre scenes. Two fans with lace and painted gauze leaves. The set is in poor condition, height 18 to 27 cm.
