Complete embroidered orfroi band, Spain, late 16th century, linen fabric embroidered in full stitch with spun gold thread and gold cord in couching, guipure and embossed work, using bastard cloud gold and polychrome silk, chiefly in split stitch and majolica stitch. Decorated with a medallion depicting the Virgin and Child Jesus, and Saint Peter, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Francis of Assisi in architectural niches. Figurative embroidered braid with an interlaced design; lining in old rose bougran (with gaps in the silk embroidery); 128 x 19 cm.
