Description
Philippe de Lasalle, a replica of part of the tapestry depicting a peacock and a pheasant, commissioned for Catherine II of Russia in 1773, Manufacture Tassinari & Chatel, Lyon, late 19th century,
Polychrome silk brocade, with a cream-coloured cannetillé ground featuring a riverside scene with a majestic peacock and ducks overlooking a portico covered in vines.
Delivered in 1778 and 1780, this piece, designed and woven by Philippe de Lasalle, was hung in the antechamber of the chapel at the Tsarskoye Selo Palace; and was later re-woven at the Empress’s request by the Lazaref manufactory in Moscow.
