Description
A replica of the Gaudin piece of furniture, first woven in 1788 and installed in 1805 in Empress Joséphine’s bedroom at Fontainebleau; manufactured by Tassinari & Chatel, Lyon, early 20th century,
brocaded silk lampas in vivid polychrome colours, with a cream satin ground. A design formerly attributed to Philippe de Lasalle, featuring ancient ruins, fruit baskets, bagpipe trophies and bouquets set amongst sinuous garlands of flowers and foliage.
Display piece, woven head and tail, (a few small stains and signs of wear), 300 x 75 cm; 270 x 75 cm.
