Our drawing is a study for the 1958 painting "Le scieur", which was exhibited at the Salon des Peintres Témoins de leur temps in 1959 on the theme of "L'Âge mécanique". We do not know exactly when our drawing was made. It could date from 1958 if it was a preliminary study for the painting, or it could be later, as the annotation and the differences between the 2 works indicate (shirt collar, cap, wood saw).
