UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. APOLLO 15 ENVELOPE TRANSPORTED TO LUNAR SOIL
1971. Cosmogram of the APOLLO 15 mission franked with five stamps, one 6 c. 'Apollo 8', two 8 c. 'Apollo XV' and two 1c. ordinaries. Cancellation 'KENNEDY SPACE CENTER JUL 26 1971' (launch day) on the front. The stamps were cancelled on the day of the ditching, 7 August 1971, by the post office of the aircraft carrier Okinawa, on the same day the autograph signature of the three astronauts David R. Scott (commander), Alfred M. Worden and James B. Irwin.
The envelope, numbered 294/300, is part of the cosmograms carried on lunar soil.
Enclosed is the joint affidavit of the three astronauts dated 19 July 1983.

APOLLO 15. CREW-CERTIFIED FLOWN COVER, CARRIED TO THE LUNAR SURFACE.
Carried to the lunar surface aboard the Falcon, numbered 294 of 300 and signed in the lower left corner by crew members Dave Scott, Alfred Worden, and James B. Irwin. Accompanied by a one-page typed notarized certification, signed 'Alfred M. Worden,' 'David R. Scott,' and 'James B. Irwin.' The provenance reads in part: 'Postal covers were carried aboard the Apollo 15 Mission, which postal covers were stamped and postmarked at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on the date of the launch, July 26, 1971, and carried aboard the Apollo 15 Spacecraft during the entire term of the Mission, to include landing on the moon and were returned to the Earth at the termination of the Mission on August 7, 1971'. The postal covers were in the possession of one or more of the undersigned until 1972, at which time they were deposited with the United States Government. The undersigned have this date inspected Postal Cover No. 294, bearing NASA Serial No. 104, and aver, affirm and certify that said Postal Cover is a cover which was carried aboard the United States Lunar Mission 'Apollo 15. All three crew members have also added their initials to a small correction in the text. In fine condition.
