Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973) Degas and two girls, one of whom is being transformed into a work of art (plate 85 from the series "Les 156"), circa 1971 Original etching (copper) on Rives wove paper Signed lower right and numbered "19/50" in pencil lower left of the sheet. All margins 22.7 x 30.3 cm at sight; 36 x 45 cm at sight (sheet) Superb print NOTE : One of 50 numbered proofs on Rives vellum. Printed before 1975. Edition Galerie Louise Leiris 1978 : 156 etchings 85. The series known as the "156 engravings" is the last engraved by Picasso between 1970 and 1972. These plates were exhibited at the Galerie Louise Leiris from 24 January to 24 February 1973, a few weeks before the artist's death. The edition was completed in 1978 in the Crommelynck workshops, Picasso's faithful friends. They bear the artist's signature stamp (Lugt 2026e).
