NOTE :
The Atelier André BRETON-Paris association has kindly informed us that there are four known examples of Nadja's glove:
- The one that belonged to André BRETON, sold in 2003 at Hôtel Drouot as part of the André BRETON collection (André BRETON, 42 rue Fontaine), and acquired by the BIBLIOTHEQUE LITTERAIRE JACQUES DOUCET - PARIS.
- The one that belonged to Arturo SCHWARZ (1924-2021), a famous Milan art historian and gallery owner, specialising in Dadaism and Surrealism.
His copy was published in Dada e surrealismo riscoperti in 2009 by Skira, then donated to the Museum of Modern Art of Rome, along with a large part of his collection.
- The one that belonged to Alan GLASS (b. 1932), a famous artist who lived in André BRETON's entourage after the war, which he unearthed at a second-hand shop in Mexico City and donated to the MUSEE D'ART MODERNE DE LA VILLE DE PARIS.
- The one that belonged to Madeleine CASTAING (1894-1992), a famous antique dealer and decorator who, along with her husband, a great art critic, was a friend of the artists of Montparnasse, Pablo PICASSO, Erik SATIE, Jean COCTEAU, Blaise CENDRARS, etc., then donated by Didier GRUMBACH, President of the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-porter des couturiers et des Créateurs de mode,
to Andrée PUTMAN.
Our silver-plated bronze copy is a variant of the patinated bronze copy offered by Lise DEHARME to André BRETON, sold at Hôtel Drouot in 2003 under no. 3189 at the André BRETON sale (André BRETON, 42 rue Fontaine), listed in the catalogues of numerous exhibitions:
