Description
Mary BJØRG ERLINGSEN (born 1977) Narcissus, for Socrates' Christmas, for the Hôtel Bristol, Paris, 2022 Suspension lamp created for the lobby of the Hôtel Bristol, Paris with light refraction. Composed of oxidised metal chain links holding cut crystal pendants Signed H. 394, W. 170, D. 75 cm on view Sold by designation. It is recommended that the purchaser call upon the artist to direct the installation at a location of his choice. NOTE: "A suspended work conceived as a hijacked chandelier, Narcissus for Socrates' Christmas (Bristol Cat) consists of a multitude of Bohemian crystal pendants, suspended one by one in a light, vibrant fall. The piece doesn't produce light: it captures it, diffracts it and sets it in motion, creating an infinite shower of reflections. Structured by fine chains in oxidised tones, it plays with the subtle tension between the strength of metal and the fragility of crystal. Its conical shape allows it to be adapted to different heights, displaying its full intensity in vertical spaces. At the crossroads of installation and object, the work evokes an almost immaterial presence _ a suspended movement, between density and lightness". Mary Bjørg Erlingsen
