Désiré ATTARGE (1820–1878), Bronze cup on a pedestal in the shape of an ancient kantharos, with a brown patina and decorated with interlacing patterns and birds; the handles are terminated by lion-headed protomes; signed ‘AD’ on the pedestal - Height 16.5 cm; Diameter approx. 11 cm (in good overall condition) COMMENT: As a chaser, Désiré Attarge worked for Froment-Meurice, Morel, Duponchel and Barbedienne. He joined the latter’s firm in 1855 as a chaser and ornamentalist. His work in collaboration with Ferdinand Barbedienne and Constant Sévin is, incidentally, on display at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
