Edme-Jean CAUSARD or CAUSSARD (c. 1720–1780), A significant violin-shaped cartel clock and its base; the oak case, finished in a varnish known as ‘Martin’, is decorated with a pastoral scene featuring birds and bouquets of flowers, and features rich rocaille ornamentation in chiselled and gilded bronze; white enamelled dial beneath a glass bezel, with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, a winding square, marked ‘Causard Hgr du Roy suivt LaCour’, a meeting-wheel movement, thread suspension, Louis XV period - H. 121 cm, W. 54 cm, D. 27 cm approx.
