Description
ADRIEN MOREAU-NERET (1869–1944), *The Capture of the Stag*, 1936, brown ink, ink wash and watercolour on vellum paper, signed ‘A. Moreau’ and dated in the bottom right-hand corner - approx. 12 x 17 cm (visible area) (in good overall condition) COMMENT: Adrien Moreau-Néret was both a painter and a lawyer. A pupil of Albert Maignan, he exhibited at the Salon from 1885 onwards. He became a member of the Société des artistes français in 1888. He received an honourable mention in 1894, a third-class medal in 1899, a bronze medal in 1900 at the Universal Exhibition, and a second-class medal in 1903. In 1896, he exhibited his works at the Galerie des Arts Réunis, at 28 Avenue de l’Opéra. Several of his works are held in public collections, such as the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Musée Rolin in Autun, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nancy and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Tours (Source: Bénézit)
