Victor LOUIS (1731-1800), 18th and 19th century FRENCH SCHOOL Sets of plans signed Victor Louis, some dated 1782 or 1783, including facades of houses on the site of the former opera house, plans of courtyards, gardens, floors... and plans attributed to Victor Louis Surveys from the second half of the 18th century (elevation of the Palais Royal, surveys of the orangery, gardens, palace, etc.) and various plans (projected buildings, mezzanine, cellars, plans of the flats with references to the Dukes of Chartres and Orléans). Approximately twenty-three drawings, pen and black ink, grey wash, watercolour over black stone lines, collages. Various formats. Some titled, dated and annotated. (Bends, poor condition). Victor Louis was the architect who carried out the major alterations to the Palais-Royal that Philippe-Egalité wanted in the 1780s. This led in particular to the creation of the current garden and the façades that surround it. A reading of Fontaine's diary reveals that he possessed as study documents "the drawings, studies and projects of Mr Louis for the constructions he carried out around the garden of the Palais-Royal in 1780", "a collection of more than a hundred sheets" that had been purchased from the heirs of Mr Louis's family. Most of these documents were in his office in the Palais-Royal and were destroyed during the looting of 1848.
