Description
Prize book from the College of Chalon-sur-Saône, three works bound in a single volume. Ocellus Lucanus. *On the Nature of the Universe*, 118 pp. Timee of Locri, *On the Soul of the World*, 130 pp. Aristotle’s Letter to Alexander on the System of the World, 150 pp. Published by Saillant, Paris, 1768. Full calfskin, triple fillet on the covers, decorated spine, gilt fillet on the edges, marbled edges. On the first endpaper, a certificate bearing the coat of arms of Chalon-sur-Saône attesting to the presentation of a prize offered by the members of the municipality to a student of Rhetoric in 1771. The three Greek texts are accompanied by French translations and commentary by Abbé Batteux, Professor of Greek and Latin Philosophy at the Collège Royal de France.
