First edition of the translation. Printing licence granted to Pierre Prault in January 1719 and transferred by him to Jombert in April of the same year. :: Alvaro de Luna, a Spanish statesman (1388–1453), was appointed Constable in 1423. A champion of royal authority, he tried in vain to subdue the nobility and led them into the struggle against the Moors (from whom he received money!). The victim of incessant slanderous attacks, he fell from favour and was beheaded.
Work attributed to Antonio Castellanos, and/or Alvar García de Santa María, and/or Gonzalo Chacón. First edition published in Milan in 1546, translated into French in 1720 (with a reprint also published by Jombert in 1730), republished in Madrid in 1784 with notes by José Miguel Flores. A critical edition was published in 1940. A rare first edition of the French translation.” [According to the bibliographer at La Librairie Transatlantique (Canada)]
