SENAC (de), Jean-Baptiste: Treatise on the Structure of the Heart, its Function, and its Diseases Second edition with illustrations, Paris, published by Joseph Barbou, 1777. 1 portrait as a frontispiece and 17 plates out of 23. 2 volumes in-4, half calf, parchment covers (handwritten), cap of volume 1 damaged, minor worm damage at the bottom of the pages without affecting the text. Second edition of this important work on cardiology, the first comprehensive synthesis of knowledge in the field, marking the effective birth of this discipline by Louis XV’s chief physician, physician to the Dames de Saint-Cyr, and at the Hôpital de la Charité in Versailles. It contains a portrait of Senac engraved by A. B. Duhamel and 23 plates, six more than the first edition of 1749. This posthumous edition was revised and supplemented by Antoine Portal, who added explanations of the figures and new plates.
