Description
Double-sided flat desk, known as a ‘Minister’s desk’, in the Louis XV style by Antoine KRIEGER (1804–1869)
In veneered wood marquetry, with three drawers running along the base and three faux drawers cvisitor’s drawers, with a gilt-bronze ingot-shaped top trimmed with havana-coloured leather, resting on four curved legs with claw-and-hoof feet. Rich gilt-bronze ornamentation. It bears a mark on the drawer and on the ingot holder: “KRIEGER”. Restorations and maintenance carried out as required. 19th-century piece. Originally from the Bas-Rhin, Krieger settled in Paris with his brother Nicolas around 1826. In 1850, the firm became Antoine Krieger et Cie. He produced all the plans and drawings and was awarded a medal in London in 1852. At the 1855 Great Exhibition, he exhibited a sideboard with carved panels featuring a medallion depicting a stag hunt.
