N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: "(...) It was in 1843 that Auguste Lapierre opened his first workshop on rue Saint-Paxent in Paris. This marked the beginning of three generations of Lapierre magic lantern makers. The lantern was for family use and was an immediate success. In 1875, his son, Edouard Virgile, took over the business. In 1883, he moved the workshops to 25 rue Pastourelle, and his lanterns are often signed E. V. L. Edouard Virgile Lapierre (...).
