Jean-Marie PRADES : Camera Obscura. Year 1825. Vincent Chevalier, Quai de l'Horloge 69. The camera here is made of brass with an isosceles right-angled prism. The prism is often convex. It focuses the image by facing the subject to be reproduced. Sometimes, the end of the tube is fitted with a convex lens to shorten the focal length. In 1863, Vincent Chevalier invented the meniscus prism (one side concave, one side convex) to reduce aberrations.
