Description
Daguerrian Excursions. The Most Remarkable Views and Monuments of the Globe. À Paris, chez Rittner et Goupil, Lerebours, Hr Bossange, 1842. Blue cover with initials on back cover "AP". Some foxing and wear. N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: About sixty steel-engraved plates per volume from 1841. In all, more than 1,200 plates (...) Nicéphore Niépce had discovered the use of lithography and was looking for a process to simplify its practice. Heliography and later the daguerreotype were born of this research. In 1840, Niépce was no longer with us and the Daguerreotype offered some hope of fulfilling this role. Several methods were used to make engravings, including using acids to bite the plate, copying the daguerreotype onto a tracing and transposing this tracing onto a steel plate where drypoint engraving was used, and finally an electroplating method. Several works based on these different techniques were published: 'Les excursions Daguerriennes' by Lerebours and 'Paris et ses environs reproduits par le Daguerréotype' by Aubert. Visuals and texts " Autour d'une collection 2 " Collection JMP Club Niépce Lumière, p. 19. Expert Isabelle Cazeils. Provenance: Jean-Marie PRADES Collection.
