A founding member of the Société française de Photographie (SFP), he devoted much of his life to photography. In 1852, he perfected a collodion of superior quality to the existing English collodion. Thinner, it adhered better to the glass and gave the emulsion greater sensitivity. In 1853, he proposed a new formula, slower, but easier to use for novice photographers. A.
