Le Rapide" camera by A. Darlot Constructeur (125, Boulevard Voltaire Paris), with A. Darlot lens. Darlot, 9 x 12, circa 1887. As is. N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: Manufactured by Darlot in Paris. Format 9 x 12 cm. Darlot lens. Variable speeds and exposure. Jean Théodore Jamin (born 26 June 1800) was an optician who set up his business at 71 rue Saint Martin, where he remained until 1849. In 1850, the street was renumbered and 71 became 127. He lived there until 1856, when he moved to 14 rue Chapon. There he went into partnership with Darlot and later with two photographers. J. T. Jamin lived at 127 rue St Martin until his death in 1867. The workshop - the optics and photographic equipment shop - is located at 14 rue Chapon. This was the main address for Jamin, then Jamin - Darlot and finally Darlot alone, after the latter bought the company in 1860. At 13 rue Chapon, this was the photography studio bought by Jamin in 1855, where in 1861 he went into partnership with two photographers, Pierre Henry Voulant and Antoine Labouriau. Jamin manufactured a number of Petzval lenses, including the famous centralising cone lens. The rear element of the Petzval formula is located at the base of the cone, which, according to Jamin, eliminates any internal reflection.
