Tourtin Paris "L'Orthoscope" mahogany camera, circa 1888. As is. N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: Made by Tourtin in Paris. Circa 1888. Single-lens reflex camera, with mirror-coupled shutter. Revolver diaphragm. Mr Smiths' American chamber was manufactured in France by Mr Tourtin under the name Orthotrope. This was one of the first single-lens reflex cameras with a mirror-coupled shutter. Guillotine shutter with four instantaneous shutter speeds. This is the forerunner of modern SLRs in its general principle, but in a different way: when the shutter is activated, the mirror descends and the viewfinder is effective. (...).
