Description
In wooden case with key, Jules Richard "Photo-Theodolite" camera, with Bertillon lens, 10.7 x 8.3, frame, circa 1898. As is. N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: Photo-Theodolite. Circa 1898. Camera made by Jules Richard, according to the patent: Bridges - Lee. Format 10.7 x 8.3 cm. Special Bertillon lens for metric photography. A model identical to this one is in the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris. This British-made camera bears the following inscription: "Bridge-Lee's Patent Photo-Theodolite L. Casella London n°5". Colonel Laussedat was born in Moulins on 19 April 1819. A Polytechnique student, he spent his entire military career in the Engineers. Initially a tutor at Polytechnique, he later became a full professor of astronomy and geodesy. He then became director of this school, before taking over as director of the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers. His most important work was 'Photogrammetry', originally known as 'Metrophotography', i.e. topographic surveying using the perspectives provided by a photographic image. This science and its applications gave rise to a number of cameras and photographic chambers, including the 'Photo-Theodolite'.
